Minutes of the Meeting
August 30, 2009

Present
Mary Jane Barber, Diane and Fred Bauer, Helen Ferguson, Dottie and Al Goldacker, Tom Greenfield, Hana and Craig Katz, Tom Kempton, John McNamara, Shannon, Claire and Wayne Milligan, Bob Norman, Edythe Norman, Kerry Sharps, Leo Spencer, Jules Thiessen

Welcome
John welcomed everyone to the home of Diane and Fred Bauer and was happy that the mayor of Mount Holly, Jules Thiessen, was present.

Treasurer's Report
The Treasury report was given by Tom Kempton. Basically, there has been no change to the balance since last month. Many outstanding dues have yet to paid.

Election
This year is an election year. The positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary are open. To quote John,
"Anyone interested in any of the above positions please contact Tom Greenfield 261-1036 or John McNamara 261-0563. Both familiar and new candidates welcome - the more people who take up these roles over time the stronger RCA becomes.
Elections will be at the October 11 meeting at 249 Shreve St., Mount Holly. Votes by a show of hands at the brunch meeting...where Spicy Tomato Juice and Fancy Orange Juice will be served. Paid up members ONLY, don't forget."

Email
John inquired if anyone had received an email from "Dwellers on Rancocas Creek, Mt. Holly." The email entailed the pursuit of Randi Rothmel to establish an environmental commission in Mount Holly for the health of the creek. Jules claimed that the environmental commission had been inactive for years, and they were considering environmental education as their first goal after reorganization. John also wondered if anyone would be interested in being a part of the group. John, Craig, Fred and Wayne showed an initial interest. Others wanted to find out more information. Website data for this email can be found at rancocascreek.org - signpost Rancocas Creek Email Group.

Fall Float
The fall float is scheduled for Sunday, October 18, 2009 from 9am to 6pm (rain date Oct. 25) at Smithville Park. The budget was approved by the Burlington County Parks Department, so the event will occur as in years past with decorations, prizes and scenic views. This year Andre Wilson is the new coordinator for Burlington County. Tom G. said advertising for the fall float will be displayed during the "Witches' Ball" in Mill Race Village held the week before our event. Diane was checking on advertising during "Arts is the Park" in September at Smithville Park.

Other Business
Everyone is in agreement about the proper operation of the dam of late, thanks in large part to a very good public works director. Despite one of the four gates being broken, creek levels have been managed very well before coming storms and returned to their glory after the weather event. Tom G. and Kerry sometimes marvel at the dramatic change in water level from their locations on the creek.
Tom K. stated that flooding can also occur from runoff.
Leo wanted to caution everyone about recreational fires, claiming a drier climate will soon occur. Be safe.
Segway to the fire trucks. A few years ago, donations were made to local fire companies to see if the trucks could make it down our roads unimpeded in the event of a fire. Mount Holly sent a truck down Kates Tract. We are unsure if other roads had been checked. A committee of two has been selected to investigate - Tom K. and Craig.
Regarding the fish ladder, Jules claimed it is an ongoing project with the cost of $750,000 being much too high to be covered by tax payers. Working with US Fish and Wildlife, alternate funds are trying to be found.

Meetings
Thanks again to the Bauers' for hosting.
The next meeting will be on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at Edythe Norman's. 609-835-0720.
The last meeting is October 11, 2009 at John and Claudia McNamara's for the brunch and elections.

Claire.
